Faith's recliner

Faith has now claimed Troy's recliner as "hers" .... Troy said that he and Faith are going to have to talk about that :)

Both Bo & Faith are doing fine. They both are now playing with toys often and take many puppy naps in between play sessions.

They are the cutest little things. Every time any of us are out of their sight whether it's for a few minutes or over night, they get so excited and act like we have been gone for a week.

Bo & Faith

Bo
Faith
Bo & Faith are our Snorkies. For those of you who don't know, a Snorkie is a mix between and Schnauzer and a Yorkie. Troy says that they should be called Terrier Mixes, but I think Snorkie is much cuter. They are my dogs so I can call them Snorkies if I want too :)
Actually ... Bo is a Snorkie (more Schnauzer than Yorkie) and Faith is a Yauzer (more Yorkie than Schnauzer).... hehe
Bo & Faith have been living with us for 2 days now, but their story is a heartbreaking one. They were discovered in a animal shelter near Amarillo, TX. They were found by the shelter wandering around at the side of the road. They were on death row and had 3 days to live and that's when the OK Yorkie Rescue sprang into action. Through a network of other Yorkie lovers, they made there way to a foster family about a week and 1/2 ago. Those little one must have went through alot in the first 6 months of their little lives. Now they are living comfortably in their forever home.
Now about 7 months old, they were spayed and neutered, had dew claws removed and retained canines removed just 2 days ago. They are recovering wonderfully and in the 2 days that they have lived with us, they have started coming out of their shells and acting like puppies. This morning, they were outside "wrestling" with each other and playing. They also played tug of war with each other with a toy. As far as we could tell, they hadn't been introduced to toys until they were with their foster family, so this is all new to them.
Bo is the more active of the two and can't stand if one of our other furbabies are getting any attention. Faith is the snuggler and usually gets comfy and goes to sleep in your arms... that is until Bo notices then he wiggles his way in too to snuggle up.
Meeting Rocky
They find Rocky the squirrel facinating and love to stand and watch him as well as chase him back and forth as he runs through his cage.
They met Joey and Joey is really jealous of them, but Joey is so laid back, they get along fine.
They are still getting aquainted with Pearl. They want to "play" with her but she isn't interested.
They both need baths and a trim but after they have their stiches removed in about a week, I'll get them cleaned up.

Rocky - Our Squirrel

Rocky, the Squirrel
Rocky the squirrel was rescued during the ice storms. Someone had cut down a tree and found two baby squirrels in it. They didn't want to just leave them alone to die, so they brought them to the animal ER where my husband works. One of the vet techs took them both home to nurture them back to health and my husband agreed to adopt one if they survived, and guess what, Rocky was a fighter and made it. At about 4 months old, Rocky came to live with us. We kept him inside in a cage until Troy could get one built outside for him to live in. We had considered letting him go into the wild, but he is such a friendly squirrel, that he doesn't realize there are predaters who could kill him and he wouldn't last long.
For the past 3 weeks or so, he has lived outside in a 4 ft deep, 8 ft wide and 8 ft tall. He has lots of branches to climb on, a squirrel box to sleep and feel safe in and a hammock to hang out in. He even is growning his own pumpkin vine. We feed him a variety of fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. His favorites are strawberrys, peanuts and pumpkin seeds. I guess one of the pumpkin seeds got planted, and now he has his own pumpkin plant :)

Pearl - Our tuxedo Cat

Pearl is our Tuxedo cat. We adopted her from a owner who had too many cats. He is a black and white tuxedo cat. She doesn't like the camera much, but I will try to get a pic of her.
She is a cat with alot of "cattitude". She thinks she is part dog, because she licks you to death just like a dog.
She usually keeps to herself and you can usually find her curled up asleep just about anywhere. She is very vocal and will pester you until she makes you understand what she needs.

Joey's Story - our Golden Retriever

Joey
Joey came to live with us about 5 years ago.
While in the military, Troy was the veterinarian at the US Customs Dog Training Center in Front Royal, Virginia. A part of his job was to do medical checks on all incoming dogs to be trained. When Joey went through his physical, he was found to have a problem with his shoulder. After prolonged "working" Joey would have a limp. For Customs, they need dogs who can make it the whole day, as many of their days are long, and Joey didn't make the cut. If they couldn't be trained for Customs, the dogs were put up for adoption. That's when he became a part of our family. We were lucky to have him as a part of our famliy and he came already having obedience training.
Before US Customs got Joey, Joey was being trained as a Leader Dog for the Blind.... Joey made it through most of the training with the Leader Dog program, but he had a problem that they couldn't seem to work out of him. Joey is easily distracted... He was a great do in all the other aspects, but to be a Leader Dog, they have to be able to stay focused. So, that's when he was sent to the US Customs program.
We feel very blessed to have our Joey. He is a very loving dog and is wonderful with our kids. He is very patient and puts up with alot from our kids and fur kids.

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my blog about my furbabies....
As most of you know, we treat our furbabies like one of the family.
We have a Golden Retriever, age 8, named Joey, a tuxedo cat, age unknown, named Pearl, a squirrel, 6 months, nsmed Rocky and 2 Yorkie/Schnauzer mixes (snorkies) named Bo & Faith.
For those of you who know us, you might be wondering "where's Crickette?" our 9 year old Yorkie. Sadly she passed away recently of congestive heart failure. It was a sudden death and we miss her terribly... but you know me, I had to have another furbaby to love, and that's when Bo & Faith came into our lives.... Bo & Faith were adopted into our family 2 days ago from the OK Yorkie Rescue. They are now a part of our family and are adjusting well.
I will post individual stories about how each furbaby came into our family :)
