I haven't posted much lately as there is not much to report ... Bo and Faith are still doing well and are not peeing as often when my husband speaks to them... so they are getting use to him.
They have also learned really quickly that the quicker they go to their kennell the faster they get a "cookie". I still can't leave them out to run around the house without supervision, but we are working on that. I am going to work with them more on obedience training and such this week. The kids are back in school, so I have more time to work with them.

progress .... slow but sure
The dogs have really come out of their shells and are acting like puppies now. It's like having 2 toddlers around always getting into mischief :)
They are doing fine, tho'!
Bo and Faith both know sit and go home .... they also are playing more. When we first got them, they were kind of "shy" and slept alot... but not anymore ... it seems like they are ALWAYS playing ... they are even more like toddlers in that whenever one has a toy, that's exactly the toy the other one wants ... there is always alot of tug of war going on as well as jumping, chasing and wrestling... they have also brought out the "inner puppy" in our Golden, Joey. When Faith and Bo run around and play chase, it's one thing, but when Joey tries to join in, I have to send them outside to rough house.

Doing fine....
Bo and Faith are doing fine. We are working on a little bit of training right now... so far they have learned "sit" and "go home" .... Bo does so well at sitting when he is about to get a treat BEFORE I tell him to that I have to have him walk toward me a bit and then I give the "sit" command.... Faith is a little slower to respond to the command but then she does, as if she's thinking "oh yeah, that's what I'm supposed to do"
The "go home" command is used when we want them to go to their crates.... it depends on what mood they are in whether they listen or not :)
I am also working on "polite" leash walking... They are catching on that the walk progresses more quickly when they don't pull on the leash. When they pull I simply stop and say "no pull" ... if they continue to pull, I take a few steps backwards until they quit pulling. It takes a long time to get around the block but they are progressing nicely :)
Faith is a little better at this than Bo is, but Faith is a lot more laid back than Bo is :)
Here are some pics of them with my girls....

Baths
Doc gave me the clearance to give them a bath today. I think that I got more wet than they did, but we got it done.... in a week or so after their stitches come out, I will get them groomed.
Bo got his bath first.... I put him in the tub with the water running already and he jumped back away from it at first... I had to drag him back closer to the water. He kept on wanting to get out, of course, but he and I both made it through just fine.
Faith was in the bath room observing what just happened to her brother, so she wouldn't come to me when I called her.... I had to drag her into the bath tub. She did fine once I got her in there, tho'!
After I towel dried them, I let them outside to run and "do their business" something about bath times always seem to relax a dog and they need to "go". Then, of course, they rolled and wallered in the grass for a while before they were ready to come in to get brushed... Faith does well getting brushed but Bo still likes to bite the brush :)

Faith's recliner
Faith has now claimed Troy's recliner as "hers" .... Troy said that he and Faith are going to have to talk about that :)
Both Bo & Faith are doing fine. They both are now playing with toys often and take many puppy naps in between play sessions.
They are the cutest little things. Every time any of us are out of their sight whether it's for a few minutes or over night, they get so excited and act like we have been gone for a week.

Bo & Faith
Bo
Faith
Bo & Faith are our Snorkies. For those of you who don't know, a Snorkie is a mix between and Schnauzer and a Yorkie. Troy says that they should be called Terrier Mixes, but I think Snorkie is much cuter. They are my dogs so I can call them Snorkies if I want too :)
Actually ... Bo is a Snorkie (more Schnauzer than Yorkie) and Faith is a Yauzer (more Yorkie than Schnauzer).... hehe
Bo & Faith have been living with us for 2 days now, but their story is a heartbreaking one. They were discovered in a animal shelter near Amarillo, TX. They were found by the shelter wandering around at the side of the road. They were on death row and had 3 days to live and that's when the OK Yorkie Rescue sprang into action. Through a network of other Yorkie lovers, they made there way to a foster family about a week and 1/2 ago. Those little one must have went through alot in the first 6 months of their little lives. Now they are living comfortably in their forever home.
Now about 7 months old, they were spayed and neutered, had dew claws removed and retained canines removed just 2 days ago. They are recovering wonderfully and in the 2 days that they have lived with us, they have started coming out of their shells and acting like puppies. This morning, they were outside "wrestling" with each other and playing. They also played tug of war with each other with a toy. As far as we could tell, they hadn't been introduced to toys until they were with their foster family, so this is all new to them.
Bo is the more active of the two and can't stand if one of our other furbabies are getting any attention. Faith is the snuggler and usually gets comfy and goes to sleep in your arms... that is until Bo notices then he wiggles his way in too to snuggle up.
Meeting Rocky
They find Rocky the squirrel facinating and love to stand and watch him as well as chase him back and forth as he runs through his cage.
They met Joey and Joey is really jealous of them, but Joey is so laid back, they get along fine.
They are still getting aquainted with Pearl. They want to "play" with her but she isn't interested.
They both need baths and a trim but after they have their stiches removed in about a week, I'll get them cleaned up.

Rocky - Our Squirrel
Rocky, the Squirrel
Rocky the squirrel was rescued during the ice storms. Someone had cut down a tree and found two baby squirrels in it. They didn't want to just leave them alone to die, so they brought them to the animal ER where my husband works. One of the vet techs took them both home to nurture them back to health and my husband agreed to adopt one if they survived, and guess what, Rocky was a fighter and made it. At about 4 months old, Rocky came to live with us. We kept him inside in a cage until Troy could get one built outside for him to live in. We had considered letting him go into the wild, but he is such a friendly squirrel, that he doesn't realize there are predaters who could kill him and he wouldn't last long.
For the past 3 weeks or so, he has lived outside in a 4 ft deep, 8 ft wide and 8 ft tall. He has lots of branches to climb on, a squirrel box to sleep and feel safe in and a hammock to hang out in. He even is growning his own pumpkin vine. We feed him a variety of fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. His favorites are strawberrys, peanuts and pumpkin seeds. I guess one of the pumpkin seeds got planted, and now he has his own pumpkin plant :)

Pearl - Our tuxedo Cat
Pearl is our Tuxedo cat. We adopted her from a owner who had too many cats. He is a black and white tuxedo cat. She doesn't like the camera much, but I will try to get a pic of her.
She is a cat with alot of "cattitude". She thinks she is part dog, because she licks you to death just like a dog.
She usually keeps to herself and you can usually find her curled up asleep just about anywhere. She is very vocal and will pester you until she makes you understand what she needs.

Joey's Story - our Golden Retriever
Joey
Joey came to live with us about 5 years ago.
While in the military, Troy was the veterinarian at the US Customs Dog Training Center in Front Royal, Virginia. A part of his job was to do medical checks on all incoming dogs to be trained. When Joey went through his physical, he was found to have a problem with his shoulder. After prolonged "working" Joey would have a limp. For Customs, they need dogs who can make it the whole day, as many of their days are long, and Joey didn't make the cut. If they couldn't be trained for Customs, the dogs were put up for adoption. That's when he became a part of our family. We were lucky to have him as a part of our famliy and he came already having obedience training.
Before US Customs got Joey, Joey was being trained as a Leader Dog for the Blind.... Joey made it through most of the training with the Leader Dog program, but he had a problem that they couldn't seem to work out of him. Joey is easily distracted... He was a great do in all the other aspects, but to be a Leader Dog, they have to be able to stay focused. So, that's when he was sent to the US Customs program.
We feel very blessed to have our Joey. He is a very loving dog and is wonderful with our kids. He is very patient and puts up with alot from our kids and fur kids.

Welcome to my blog!
Welcome to my blog about my furbabies....
As most of you know, we treat our furbabies like one of the family.
We have a Golden Retriever, age 8, named Joey, a tuxedo cat, age unknown, named Pearl, a squirrel, 6 months, nsmed Rocky and 2 Yorkie/Schnauzer mixes (snorkies) named Bo & Faith.
For those of you who know us, you might be wondering "where's Crickette?" our 9 year old Yorkie. Sadly she passed away recently of congestive heart failure. It was a sudden death and we miss her terribly... but you know me, I had to have another furbaby to love, and that's when Bo & Faith came into our lives.... Bo & Faith were adopted into our family 2 days ago from the OK Yorkie Rescue. They are now a part of our family and are adjusting well.
I will post individual stories about how each furbaby came into our family :)
